This next “CIY” is one of my favorite ingredients to make because it normally means there’s a super yummy cocktail or delicious dessert in my near future. Plus, its almost as easy as our crouton lesson. Maybe easier. But just barely.
Here we go….first, mix 1 part sugar with 1 part water and simmer over low heat until combined.
Now, you can leave it at that…or you can get fancy.
Today I feel like making this “Perfect Lemon Drop Martini” courtesy of The Hopeless Housewife with our simple syrup so we are gonna get fancy.
Here’s what your gonna need:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
Here’s what your gonna do:
Peel 4-5 strips of skin from the lemon using a vegetable peeler. Make sure to only get the yellow, rind is not a yummy ingredient.
Toss the water, sugar and lemon peel into a pan over low heat and stir until all of the sugar is dissolved.
Turn off the heat and let the mixture steep for 10-15 minutes so our simple syrup soaks up all that lemony goodness.
Discard lemon peels and let cool completely before using.
Now let’s gather up the ingredients for our martini and get shaking.
2 ounces vodka
1/2 ounce Triple Sec
1 ounce lemon simple syrup
1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
Shake like crazy and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
